Indiana Healthy Community Initiative

Healthy Community, Healthy Indiana

We all know Indiana’s a great place to call home. But we’ve got work to do when it comes to our state’s overall health.

According to the United Health Foundation, Indiana ranks just 39 out of 50 when it comes to the health of our state. Health status of employees is a major factor used by companies looking to locate new enterprises, so we need to do better. And with your help, we will.

The Indiana Healthy Community (IHC) Initiative is a project of the Wellness Council of Indiana, which promotes a healthier Indiana, both in and out of the workplace. We’re proud to have been named one of IHC’s recognized healthy communities. And we’ve been working hard to meet the group’s eight key components. These build on our county’s resources, leadership, and community involvement to increase the quality of health and life in Hancock County.

The best way for healthy365 to serve our community is to understand its specific health issues. To that end, every three years we embark on a research initiative to assess the health needs of the Hancock County community and its residents. You may review the results from our 2017 community needs assessment report. According to our 2017 report, the four key themes and the significant findings in this region are:

  • Community Perception of General Health Behaviors
  • Perception of Drug and Alcohol Use
  • Limited Access to Mental Health and Addictions Services
  • Perception of Tobacco and Nicotine Use
